AvPainter
is a tool to aid the creation of clothing and skins for Second Life, allowing
you to preview textures and draw directly onto the avatar model. It is a
separate application that runs in Windows, outside of Second Life, importing tga,
bmp, jpg, ppm and png files and exporting targa (.tga) files.
You can download a demo version (about 1.5Mb) from
here.
Make sure you check the requirements list below before installing the demo or
buying the full version. AvPainter currently requires a graphics card with
vertex and pixel shader support. This is a limitation I'm trying to find a
workaround for, so if it affects you, please check back later! AvPainter
requires Windows XP or Windows Vista. If in
doubt, please try the demo before buying the full version!
The demo version has the save option disabled, so you can view and edit clothing
textures, but not save. To get the full version, you can buy AvPainter
in world,
or through
SLExchange or
SLBoutique (Second Life account required).
With older versions, you received an AvPainter Package object that looked like a large cardboard box. Inside the box was a set of instructions and the AvPainter Computer object. Take the computer object out of the box and rez it in world, and when you do so, it will tell you your access code and download url.
With the new version (v1.2) you will receive just the AvPainter Computer object. When you rez it, it will display "click me" hover text. Go ahead and click it, and a pop-up box will give you the choice of reading the installation instructions, or giving you the download url and access code.
The full version of AvPainter occasionally checks for updates.
You will be able
to download any updates for AvPainter for no extra charge.
Although they can run side by side, AvPainter runs best without SL running. SL
tends to grab a lot of texture memory and slows AvPainter a lot.
If you run into trouble installing or running AvPainter, please IM me and I'll
be happy to help you.
Full version is no-transfer. If you want to buy copies for friends, please IM
me.
AvPainter is built using Microsoft's .NET 2.0 and XNA technology, which is
currently only runs on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista
Before you attempt to install or run AvPainter, make sure you have the following
installed.
Please make sure you update your version of DirectX after
installing XNA to make sure you have the components that XNA requires.
Full instructions are included with AvPainter (via Help->Show Instructions menu option). IM me (Pootle Trollop) if you need help or have any questions, and I will try to help you when I can. Alternatvely, email me using avpainter@cyplexia.net.
