Computer Games I've worked on

Moonquake
When : Summer 1992
Machine : Acorn
WebsiteMarsquake web page
Description : A bomberman clone under the guise of a lunar rescue mission. A large meteor strike has caused roof falls in underground caves forming part of a manned base. As a demolition expert, you need to clear the rockfalls over ten levels of increasing difficulty, or play two players against each other. Originally released on the December issue of Archimedes World cover disk. Click on the screenshot for a larger version.

Indiana Pea and the Raiders of his Lost Arch
When : Spring 1993
Machine : Acorn
Description : I had put together a recursive maze generator with a big scrolly screen routine, a large round green character with an Indiana Jones style hat, and a few creatures to get in his way. No real idea of what the final game was going to be, which kind of explains why it never got anywhere. Click on the screenshot for a larger version.

Onside Complete Soccer

When : October 1994 - December 1996
Machine : 3DO / Playstation / PC
Developer : MotiveTime/Elite
Publisher : Telstar
Description
: When I first started at Elite, I was given the task of converting a game that was already in progress on PC to 3DO. This was a new spangly 3D football game. The 3DO version was never completed; after about a years development, I had to take over the Playstation version after the previous programmer left. By that time, the 3DO console was looking like a bit of a flop, anyway. Swapping between the Playstation and PC versions, the PC version was finally released in the summer of '96. The Playstation version, however, had to undergo the Sony submission funhouse, before finally appearing in the shops just before Christmas '96. Curiously, in Spring 2002, I heard from a guy from a company publishing games for "classic" gaming systems - see their website here. I put him in touch with Elite, and it's now possible the last version of 3DO Onside may yet be published!

Marsquake / Marsquake Boom:Deluxe
When : Spring 1996 - Summer 1998
Machine : Acorn
WebsiteMarsquake web page
Description : A sequel to Moonquake, yet another bomberman clone, but with many more features than it's predecessor. This time set below the martian landscape, you could play 32 levels in four different environments as a single player, or up to four people on one of eight multiplayer levels. Marsquake was first released on the September 1997 issue of Acorn User cover disk. After this, I improved the game, adding computer players, serial link option and a level editor to create Marsquake Boom:Deluxe which I released as shareware on the internet.

The Elimination Game
When : October 1996 - April 1997
Machine : PC
Developer : MotiveTime/Elite
Description : A 3D shoot 'em up, combining all out hi-tech warfare against tyrannical machines and automated defence systems with Saturday night family entertainment game shows. Kind of Terminator meets Running Man meets Family Fortunes. Unfortunately, I left not long into the project, due to the job offer from Iguana. The project continued for about another year before being shelved to concentrate effort on another title.

Bloodshot
When : April 1997 - October 1998
Machine : PC
Developer : Iguana Entertainment
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : Following in the footsteps of Turok and Shadow Man, Acclaim were keen to develop another of their comic characters into a game. Bloodshot is a top secret government experiment, using nano-technology to ressurect dead bloke Raymond Garrison. He's obviously non too pleased with the whole affair, because much running around with guns then commences. Click here for more pictures and info.

Game Core
When : Summer 1998 - present (ish)
Machine : Acorn
WebsiteBarely
Description : Sorry.. very slow progress. Supposed to be a base for writing games, providing 2d/3d rendering routines, resource management, RiscOS interface and so on. I still plan to finish it though!

Shadow Man

When : November 1998 - December 1999
Machine : PC (November 1998 - June 1999), Sega Dreamcast (July 1999 - December 1999)
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside (formerly known as Iguana Entertainment)
Publisher : Acclaim
WebsiteShadow Man web page @ Acclaim.net
Description : Immortal voodoo warrior, Mike LeRoi, takes on the ancient forces of evil who are attempting to bring about The End of All Things, as foretold in prophesy. Looks rather nice, too. Dreamcast US/NTSC version released December 1999, European/PAL versions released January 2000. The early US copies had a rather nasty sound bug - I was most amused to find they'd published a version two versions earlier than the one I just sent them. All part of the rush to get the game out for Thanksgiving/Christmas, I believe.

Eternal Warriors
When : December 1999 - April 2000
Machine : Microsoft X-Box
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : Early design and prototype work only. Fighting vampires or something. I never was too convinced about the game idea.

Unnamed Platform unknown
When : May/June 2000
Machine : Developing on PC, but ultimately undecided.
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : Early design and prototype work only. Racing all-terrain vehicles through warzones around the world. Nice physics model - difficult to drive a three-wheeler through some of those terrains, though.

Zombie Revenge
When : November 2000 - February 2001
Machine : Playstation 2
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : A conversion of the Sega coin-op and Dreamcast game. A slow start due to the small conversion team, but borrowing code used in the conversion of Crazy Taxi. Just got as far as disassembling the collision detection routines in Sega's libraries, when the project was postponed due to help needed on Shadow Man 2. Will not be resumed by Acclaim due to licencing issues.

Shadow Man 2 : 2econd Coming

When : March 2001 - February 2002
Machine : Playstation 2
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside
Publisher : Acclaim
Website : Shadow Man 2 website @ Acclaim
Description : Mike LeRoi is back to fight more bad guys who are, once again, intent on bringing about the end of the world.

Forsaken 2 (name to be decided)
When : August 2000 - October 2000, March 2002 - May 2002
Machine : Initially PC and/or X-Box, then exclusively Playstation 2
Developer : Acclaim Studios Teesside
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : A fast, fun shoot-em-up, loosely based on the original Forsaken game. Postponed while Zombie Revenge was completed, which in turn made way for Shadow Man 2. Returned briefly when SM2 was complete, but had to produce a demo of the vehicle controls, rather than work on the code design. It didn't matter in the end, as the closure of Acclaim's Teesside Studio also signalled the end of Forsaken 2.

Alias
When : November 2002 - January 2004
Machine : PlayStation 2 and X-Box
Developer : Acclaim Studios Cheltenham
Publisher : Acclaim
Website : Official Alias the Game website
Description : Kung-fu, stealth and spying in this third-person action game following the popular TV series.

The Red Star
The Red StarWhen : February 2004 - July 2004
Machine : PlayStation 2 and X-Box
Developer : Acclaim Studios Austin
Publisher : Acclaim
Description : Cool game for 1 or 2 players based in an alternative reality Russia, with plenty of hi-tech stuff ang magic. Felt and played like a lot of the really good old shoot'em ups. "Unreleased, but what a stunner." No sign of this game since Acclaim's bankruptcy in September 2004 . Presumably the rights to it should be available for sale, but so far it's been conspicuous in its absence.

So those are the games that I've worked on so far. If you want to read about the games I like to play and/or have inspired me, you'll be wanting to click here.
